'Late Show' legend David Letterman weighed in on the show's cancelation

of clips from various “Late Show With David Letterman” shows dating as far back as 1994. The clips all had one thing in common: Letterman threw shade at CBS in each of them.Given the timing of the upload, the video seems like a reaction to Stephen Colbert’s recent announcement that the “Late Show” will come to an end in 2026.

“The network will be ending ‘The Late Show’ in May,” Colbert said during the Thursday, July 17, episode. “It’s not just the end of our show, but it’s the end of the ‘Late Show’ on CBS. I’m not being replaced, this is all just going away.” Colbert took over the “Late Show” hosting gig from Letterman in 2015. Prior to the show’s 1993 CBS premiere, Letterman hosted “Late Night With David Letterman” on NBC from 1982 to 1993. Letterman isn’t the only talk show host who’s reacted to the shocking cancelation. Colbert’s longtime friend Jon Stewart railed against CBS’s decision during Monday’s episode of “The Daily Show.”“The fact that CBS didn’t try to save their number one-rated network late night franchise that’s been on the air for over three decades is part of what’s making everybody wonder, ‘Was this purely financial or maybe the path of least resistance for your $8 billion merger?’” Stewart questioned, referencing Skydance’s pending acquisition of CBS’ parent company, Paramount Global.last week, CBS execs said that the “Late Show” cancelation was “purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night” and was “not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.” Jimmy Kimmel also slammed the cancelation via his Instagram Story, writing, “Love you Stephen. F–k you and all your Sheldons CBS.” The post seemingly referenced the network’s “Big Bang Theory” spinoffs “Young Sheldon,” “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage,” and the recently announced“Watch What Happens Live” host Andy Cohen questioned why CBS didn’t try cutting the show’s budget before axing it altogether. “They’re turning the lights out completely at 11:30, which says to me, CBS is just cooked,” Cohen said on his SiriusXM show. “I mean, it’s just, it is cooked. They are saying, ‘We are done.’”If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.and agree that your clicks, interactions, and personal information may be collected, recorded, and/or stored by us and social media and other third-party partners in accordance with our
