Remnants of the Daniels Park Dam that was destroyed by a winter storm in 2005 have finally been removed.

The Chagrin River’s Daniels Park Dam in Willoughby is only a memory for many anglers, but a $2.2 million state grant has finally removed the remnants of the dam and is improving the river corridor to enhance the health of the waterway, and improve the steelhead trout fishing. CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Chagrin River and its East Branch have become a world class steelhead trout fishery over the years, and thanks to a $2.

About four miles of that stretch of the Chagrin River winds through the Cleveland Metroparks’ South Chagrin Reservation, ensuring public access to one of Northeast Ohio’s most popular game fish. “Addressing this erosion is crucial to to reduce sediment and nutrient pollution to Lake Erie,” said Deputy Director Kimberly Brewster Shefelton of Chagrin River Watershed Partners. The state H2Ohio project will stabilize eroding stream banks, realign the East Branch, and create an oxbow wetland within a portion of the old East Branch Channel.

The free event includes a shop cookout, new fall fishing gear, tactics for swinging flies and other fall steelhead tactics, and two-handed casting. The 29th annual OCBS Steelhead Expo will take over the Rocky River Nature Center, 24000 Valley Parkway, North Olmsted, from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. The free show is hosted by the Ohio Central Basin Steelheaders and the Cleveland Metroparks.
