A powerful cold front brings frigid temperatures and strong winds to the region on Wednesday. A wind advisory and cold weather advisory are in effect.
A frigid and windy Wednesday is in store with a wind advisory in effect until noon and a cold weather advisory from midnight until 10 a.m. Thursday. Highs will struggle to reach the low to mid 40s, but wind chills will make it feel more like the 20s and 30s throughout the day. A wind advisory is in effect with sustained winds between 20 and 25 mph, with occasional gusts exceeding 35 mph. Due to the strong winds and dry air, there is no expectation of wintry precipitation.
Overnight temperatures will plummet into the 20s, creating dangerous wind chill values. A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect for most of the area, warning of wind chills in the 10-15 degree range. Notably, an Extreme Cold Warning is issued for areas north and west of Houston, including cities like Huntsville, Brenham, Bellville, and Wharton, where wind chills are expected to drop into the single digits.A slight reprieve from the cold is expected later in the week. Showers may return by late Friday, with a greater chance of storms on Saturday into early Sunday. Temperatures will remain chilly but will not be as frigid as Wednesday. By early next week, a return to sunshine and much milder air is anticipated, with upper 70s possible!
