The Proteas Women take on Australia this morning for a place in the final of the T20 World Cup. And if it is rained out, the Proteas will advance to the final no questions asked.

Thursday’s match against the host nation in Sydney will be the fourth meeting between the teams at T20 World Cups, and South Africa have lost all four. The other team that held a similar win streak against South Africa were England, but the Proteas convincingly beat them in the opening match of the tournament.

In 2017 the Proteas made it to the 50-over World Cup semifinal and in 2014 they managed to get to the T20 World Cup semifinal. This was after South Africa posted their highest score against the Australians – 147.

With respect to point one, South Africa have played exciting cricket and have not succumbed to any collapses at all. “She’s an incredible player and it’s a massive loss for them but having said that we know how strong they are and how much depth they have, so as a team we didn’t read too much into it,” Van Niekerk said.On current form, South Africa could edge Australia out despite playing one less game this tournament.
