Dan Patrick announced his candidacy for a fourth term as Texas Lieutenant Governor on Friday, receiving an endorsement from former President Donald Trump . Patrick made the announcement in a news release, stating, 'With the Legislative Session past the half-way point and many of our priority bills passed, I am announcing my 2026 re-election campaign. A more formal kickoff will come following the Session, but I wanted to make my intentions known and official.
' Trump voiced his support for Patrick on his social media platform, Truth Social. 'As Texas Chair of our Presidential Campaigns in 2016, 2020, and 2024, Dan has been an incredible friend to our Movement, helping us WIN BIG in the Primaries and General Elections,' Trump wrote, in part. 'Dan Patrick has my Complete and Total Endorsement - He will never let you down!'Patrick has been a staunch advocate for conservative policies during his tenure leading the Texas Senate. During the current legislative session, he has championed several key initiatives, including efforts to incorporate religion into the public school curriculum, a ban on THC, and property tax reform. According to a February 2025 poll conducted by the University of Texas/Texas Politics Project, Patrick's approval rating stands at 37%, while 32% of respondents expressed disapproval. However, among Republicans, his approval rating remains high at 65%.At 75 years old, Patrick has served as lieutenant governor since 2014, succeeding David Dewhurst. Prior to his election as lieutenant governor, Patrick served two terms as a state senator, representing sections of Houston and surrounding areas within Harris County.
