The For Oak Cliff community center has long been a haven for families, fellowship and resources. Now the nonprofit will focus on healingfounder and CEO Taylor Toynes. He and his team have devoted their lives to serving and lifting up this community.and the wounding of two other officers — occur on the nonprofit’s own property is unbearable. An officer lost his life while going about his job of keeping their community safe.

“This is my life’s work,” he always says when we met to talk about South Oak Cliff. “This is my assignment from God.”Balloons and flowers adorn a pole in the parking lot of the For Oak Cliff community center in Dallas on Friday.and met his wife, Ariel, at Skyline High School. They are the parents of an 8-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son.

Three weeks ago, the nonprofit hosted its 10th back-to-school festival, or as many call it, the “Annual August Oak Cliff Family Reunion.”

It’s dreadful a nonprofit spreading goodwill now must reckon with the memories of what happened Thursday night. For Oak Cliff plans to reopen Tuesday. While the nonprofit notes the shooting was a random, isolated event, Toynes knows families are shaken.
