Tampa to host the 2029 CFP National Championship after Dallas committee withdraws bid due to scheduling and logistical concerns.
Dallas will no longer host the 2029 College Football Playoff national championship game as it initially hoped. The decision was made by the committee responsible for North Texas' bid, which was revealed by a report from The Action Network's Brett McMurphy on Monday. According to the report, Tampa has replaced Dallas as the host city for the game on January 22, 2029, due to a scheduling conflict.
Although AT&T Stadium in Arlington had previously hosted several crucial College Football Playoff games, including the 2015 championship game where Ezekiel Elliott led Ohio State to a victory over Oregon, the committee withdrew its bid for the 2029 game for several reasons last summer. Concerns arose regarding the availability of suitable space to accommodate the extensive fan fest associated with the national championship, which requires a minimum of 450,000 square feet. Additionally, the Texas Legislature was undergoing a process to revise its events trust fund at the time of the bid review, which potentially could have influenced the funding allocated for a national championship in Dallas. The College Football Playoff evaluates championship bid submissions every few years and has already selected Miami (2026), Las Vegas (2027), New Orleans (2028), Tampa (2029), and Miami again (2030) for its upcoming championship games. The Dallas committee, however, intends to submit another bid to bring the game back to North Texas during the next bid cycle
