A teenage boy walking to school died after being struck by a car in southeast Oak Cliff on Friday morning, officials say.
He was a student at Boude Storey Middle School, said Robyn Harris, a Dallas ISD spokeswoman, who added that it has been a “pretty traumatic day.” Harris said the district is in contact with the family to provide support and would be providing mental health and counseling services to those at the school.Harris said she could not share the student’s name, for privacy reasons. The police also did not release the identity of the teenager.Dallas police responded just before 8 a.m.
Harris said the boy was “very much a popular student,” and there would be ongoing support for the kids at the school.“They’ve lost a friend and they’ve lost a student or they’ve lost a family member, and so you can only imagine what that processing, and the amount of time that takes,” Harris said. The grief, she said, has just begun and the district is working to help the students work through their emotions.
“It’s been a real intentional focus on, first, informing individuals at the school, but also really being there as a support, to listen, to provide that type of care and nurture for our students who are still, at the end of the day, they’re children,” Harris said., Breaking news reporter.
