Weather preview for the Dallas-Fort Worth area for Thursday, May 30
Powerful storms killed at least 13 people and left a wide trail of destruction Sunday across Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. Meteorologists predicted a lull in storms in the Dallas-Fort Worth area Wednesday evening before thunderstorms pick back up on Thursday and Friday.
The National Weather Service forecasts possible isolated storms throughout Eastern and Central Texas on Wednesday, but it is unlikely that these storms will be severe. Allison Prater, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, said most of the rain predicted will generally be south of Interstate 20.Storms in North Texas are expected to pick up again on Thursday and Friday, and could lead to damaging winds, hail and flooding.
North Texas has been battered by storms the past week or so. Late Saturday, tornados were confirmed to have touched down in Cooke County, about 60 miles north of downtown Dallas. Severe weather returned Monday, pelting Dallas and its surrounding areas with constant rain and 80 mph wins that downed tree limbs and knocked out power to hundreds of thousands.Partly to mostly cloudy and warm with a 60% chance of a storm. Low: 70. High: 83. Wind: SE 10-15 mph.
