The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly considering trading superstar linebacker Micah Parsons, despite publicly stating their intention to keep him.
The Dallas Cowboys have publicly stated their intention to keep linebacker Micah Parsons, one of the NFL 's premier defensive players, who is expected to sign a lucrative second contract this offseason. However, behind closed doors, they have reportedly entertained the idea of trading the 25-year-old superstar. There have been at least some internal discussions within the organization about whether to pay Parsons or trade him for a substantial return.
Parsons is currently slated to earn $24 million on his fifth-year option in 2025. While most players who receive this fifth-year option on their rookie contracts ultimately sign a long-term extension before it kicks in, Parsons is poised to hit unrestricted free agency in 2026. If he were to reach the open market, Parsons would undoubtedly command a king's ransom, possibly even surpassing the value of Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett's contract.Over his first four NFL seasons, Parsons has racked up 52.5 sacks, consistently exceeding double digits each year. He has also been recognized as a three-time All-Pro and a four-time Pro Bowler. Parsons's annual contract value is projected to exceed $30 million per year. However, he has hinted at the possibility of accepting a more team-friendly deal to aid the Cowboys in their championship aspirations. Dallas, on the other hand, believes that parting ways with Parsons would contradict their vision of a championship window, considering the recent hefty contracts awarded to quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. The organization's history of waiting until the last minute to address contract extensions, often finding themselves backed into a corner and forced to pay top dollar to retain their star players, has made it more challenging to assemble a championship-caliber roster around them
