Dallas residents will have to wait to see whether the city will move forward with citywide changes to off-street parking after the City Plan Commission deferred the issue Thursday.
After divided comments on whether Dallas should eliminate broad requirements that developers build a certain number of off-street parking spaces, commissioners voted to keep the public hearing open until a special called meeting on January 16.
“It’s important to note that we do not see this as taking away parking spaces,” David Lehde, director of government affairs for the Dallas Builders Association, told the commission. “Rather it frees up staff, the city and the development sector to better appropriate parking as needed, especially for multifamily developments…Our members will still be providing parking, that is simply due to market demand.”“I live next to Bishop Arts,” Laura Palmer said.
