Beginning Aug. 1, soda buyers will say goodbye to the beloved green Sprite bottle as Coca-Cola switches to a clear plastic bottle to increase the material’s likelihood of being remade into a new bottle. Texans should see the new bottles on shelves by mid-August. The Dallas-based bottler, Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages, is a leader in the push for sustainability, according to Chris Vallete, senior vice president of technical innovation and stewardship for the Coca-Cola Co.
“We’re committed to working with everyone to help solve the plastic waste problem,” said Vallete. “And part of that problem is closing the circular economy loop by making sure our bottles can be recycled, that they are collected, they’re processed properly and they actually make it back into bottles.”
