David Mundee Dale County ’s Junior Smith got an extra chance and made the most of it Friday night against Geneva . With the Warriors down one, Smith was at the foul line with 0.3 of a second left and missed the first free throw. However, the Panthers were called for lane violation, giving Smith an extra free throw. He then proceeded to hit two free throws to give Dale County a 57-56 Class 4A , Area 3 win over Geneva . Smith finished with 28 points to lead the Warriors (9-8, 1-1).

Kameron Seward had 14 points to lead Geneva (8-15, 0-2).\Ashford 54, Daleville 44 Ashford jumped out to a 14-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and stayed in control of the Class 4A, Area 3 game. Austin Tyler had 19 points and Zay Johnson 15 for Ashford (7-9, 2-0). Ahmod Billins had 17 points, Xavier Harris had 15 and both Alec Spann and Drashon Bussey had 12 points to lead Abbeville (14-3, 3-0). Bussey also had 10 rebounds. Barbour County (8-8, 1-2) was led by Rurtyious Ross with 16 points. Carroll 76, Eufaula 51Dezmon Pruitt had 20 points and both N’Jai Gosha and Michael Culver both had 19 points to lead Carroll in a Class 5A, Area 4 game at Carroll. Devon Pruitt led the Eagles (15-5, 2-0) on the board with 11 rebounds. Gosha added eight rebounds and Pruitt six. For Eufaula (6-11, 1-1), Jakayden Mahone had 14 points and Montravious Cullins had 12 points. Houston Academy 84, Wicksburg 34Houston Academy seized a 43-21 halftime lead and cruised to the Class 3A, Area 3 win. All 10 players scored for the Raiders (8-4, 2-0) with Kadyn Mitchell leading the way with 15 points. Gabe Glover followed with 14 and Judson Bailey added 10. Wicksburg (7-12, 0-2) was led by Cooper Morrison and Jamien Ward with 11 points each. Slocomb 63, Northside Methodist 48The RedTops won their 14th straight game with a 63-48 win over Northside Methodist in a Class 3A, Area 3 contest. Tyler Nicholls had 20 points and Cade Birge 13 to lead Slocomb (14-3). For Northside Methodist, Kyle Kirchhoff had 20 points, 11 rebounds and four steals and Reid Roberts had 10 points. Houston County 62, Samson 45After 10 losses to open the season, Houston County broke into the win column Friday night, winning at home over Samson 62-45 in a Class 2A, Area 2 game. Trevon Handsford led the winning Lions (1-10, 1-3) with 23 points. Chase Ray led Samson (5-13, 0-3) with 12 points. Last Friday, Samson lost to Pike Liberal Arts 60-50 despite Tyler Lamb’s 20 points and Ben McKenzie’s 13 points and 16 rebounds.
