November’s 8.4% rate was the second consecutive month that prices fell, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Southwest region office.
The U.S. November inflation rate was 7.1%, the government said Tuesday. The month-to-month increase of 0.1% was lower than expected and moderated for the second month after hitting a peak in June. After consumers learned to buy the family pack of chicken legs, pick frozen vegetables instead of fresh and plan weekly dinners to match what’s on sale at the supermarket, food prices are easing. Cereals and bakery products, mean poultry, fish and eggs, and dairy products all posted declines but are still more than 10% higher than a year ago. Overall, groceries, or food at home, declined 0.2% in November but is 15.3% higher than a year ago.
