Watch his entire interview above.Always set up your grill in a well-ventilated area, at least 10 feet away from your home, deck railings, and overhanging branches.Place your grill on a stable, level surface to prevent it from tipping over. For gas grills, inspect the gas tank hose for leaks by applying a light soap and water solution.
For charcoal grills, ensure proper storage of charcoal in a cool, dry place. Use only charcoal starter fluid designed for grills, and never use gasoline or other flammable liquids.Always open the lid before lighting a gas grill to prevent gas buildup and potential flash fire.Never add lighter fluid or any flammable liquid to an already lit fire, even if it is only smoldering.Wear appropriate clothing, avoiding loose sleeves or dangling fabrics that could catch fire.
Keep a fire extinguisher rated for grease fires nearby. Note: Water should never be used on a grease fire.Allow the coals to cool completely for 48 hours before disposing of them in a metal container. Consider wetting the ashes prior to disposal. Turn off the burners and propane tank on gas grills after each use. Turn off the grill by closing the propane tank valve first, then turning off the grill burners .Keep children and pets at least three feet away from the grilling area at all times.Be aware of wind conditions when grilling.
