Roarty-Nugent, who was jailed at the time of the April 4, 2018, beating on charges of possessing a weapon with a felony record, asked former officer Sandra Johnson for an extra carton of milk. Then-Cpl. Steve Boardman and former SRT members Bruce Smith and Russell Graham handcuffed Roarty-Nugent and said they were taking him to isolation. Instead they went to a different floor, where the officers kicked him to the ground and pummeled him, according to the lawsuit.

Roarty-Nugent spent the next 11 days in isolation and the officers threatened to “come in here in the middle of the night and finish the job,” according to records.
