engaged in medical malpractice when overseeing the COVID-19 pandemic and purposely covered up “the tragic aftermath” of his policy decisions to avoid responsibility, according to a newly released report.Throughout their investigation, lawmakers found that Cuomo “knowingly and willfully made false statements” to the subcommittee “on numerous occasions” related to the nursing home deaths. As a result, the subcommittee has referred Cuomo to the Justice Department for criminal prosecution.
That policy resulted in more than 9,000 COVID-19 patients being admitted to nursing homes between March 25, 2020, and May 8, 2020, according to the report. The former governor’s office later published a report on July 6 seeking to tie the high number of COVID-19-related deaths in nursing homes to be the fault of nursing home staff — rather than as a result of Cuomo’s March 25 directive.
