Many of the cooling stations are open daily, with the exception of the Juneteenth holiday closing a few libraries.
To combat those hot temperatures and humidity, Cumberland County Department of Public Safety on Monday released a list of cooling centers for residents alongside helpful tips for beating the heat.
As stated in a press release, department Director Robert Shivley Jr. has issued a strong advisory for residents to exercise caution when venturing outdoors and to keep an on their pets, children, and elderly community members. “With temperatures expected in the high 90s, we urge our residents to stay indoors or make time for breaks in the shade or air conditioning. Stay hydrated and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.,” Shively said. “It is extremely important if you are driving with your children or pets to check the back seat every time you leave your car, and don’t forget to check on elderly parents or neighbors.
The extreme heat can be especially dangerous for older adults, as the release explains that it could affect those with “preexisting illnesses, those who take certain medications, and individuals living alone or with limited mobility.”Hours: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. How to keep your pets safe as heat wave arrives in central Pa.
