While there are certainly isekai anime in particular that strongly resemble Solo Leveling, others are wildly different, yet retain its more bombastic factors, and even some staff. In the case of Wao World's A Wild Last Boss Appeared! fans may be surprised to see such a fun isekai anime stand as a Solo Leveling replacement. Was a Killer New Isekai Anime from Last Season While Solo Leveling is busy pushing an emerging power fantasy genre to grow its numbers, A Wild Last Boss Appeared! had plenty of competition in the already-saturated isekai anime market on Crunchyroll. Featuring the #1 player of the in-series fictional game Exgate Online as he's then trapped in the body of its avatar, this anime sat initially in Overlord's shadow. Yet, as viewers get engrossed in the plot in which the world, instead of taking cues from the game, relies on the lore built by its"novel system" chronicling its PvP conquests, protagonist Lufas Maphaal is a more quirky, differently complicated isekai hero than Ainz Ooal Gown. The series features Lufas wrestling with their dual identity both as the male player and the female character he embodies. Moreover, Lufas encounters allies like the Twelve Heavenly Stars based on the traditional Zodiac with some Grecian tweaks, while trying to regain the character's suppressed memories from childhood, with nefarious, manipulative forces pushing Lufas into conflicts with Exgate's world. What's neat about A Wild Last Boss Appeared! is that, on top of vibrant, colorful visuals and goofy isekai mechanics including an RV Golem that eventually gets airplane wings, it's also got some truly spectacular fights. One particular Heavenly Star, Libra, consistently steals the show with her mix of mecha combat tech and maid aesthetics, resembling One-Punch Man's Genos. Another reason Solo Leveling fans should check the anime out, beyond one particular episode clearly paying homage to OPM's Saitama vs. Boros fight, is that its director, Yūya Horiuchi, storyboarded some of the Solo Leveling anime's best moments. This includes the fateful Double Dungeon incident, and even Jinwoo's most touching emotional reunion. A Wild Last Boss Appeared! boasts similar levels of polish and care.
