Jobs losses will be split between the corporate division and the three casino precincts. Crown says the decision was driven by economic-related pressures.
Already a subscriber?Crown Resorts will cut up to 1000 jobs across its three casinos in a major restructure designed to offset weak economic conditions and ensure the group remains viable to compete with the best casinos in Asia.
“The challenges at Crown reflect greatly reduced foreign tourism, a sharp decline in local workers in the city centres, and restrictions on gaming play in Sydney and Melbourne,” Mr Carruthers said.“We are committed to our regulatory obligations and ongoing transformation, including Crown PlaySafe, Melbourne and Sydney Transformation Plans and ongoing remediation in Perth.”
About 500 jobs are expected to be cut from Crown’s corporate division – the other 500 are from staff employed in respective casinos. As Perth’s economic conditions are far better, most of the roles will come from Melbourne and Sydney. Crown was disgraced in 2021 after two royal commissions into its operations found multiple breaches of anti-money laundering and counterterrorism laws in Melbourne and Perth .
