A Crown Point man suffered minor small inhalation but all his animals came out fine, having been rescued from a house fire in the 600 Block of Alice Street earlier this week.
Crown Point Fire & Rescue responded to the blaze at 4:40 p.m. on Sept. 4. They met the owner and his dog outside but learned that there were other animals still inside, so the crew headed into the home and rescued a rabbit and several birds, according to Fire Chief Mark Baumgardner.None of the animals required medical attention, he said. The man was treated and released from Franciscan Health Crown Point.
Baumgardner commended the work of everyone involved, especially on a day when temperatures soared into the 90s.
