Pay for elected officials and everyone else who works for the City of Crown Point could be going up next year.
The Crown Point City Council took the first step in giving themselves, Mayor Pete Land and all employees an across-the-board 4% pay raise with their approval on first reading of the 2024 Salary Ordinance on Tuesday. Eventually, the State Board of Accounts will have its say, in a budget review, on whether the city can afford the raises.The proposed salary increases will bump Land up to $4,310.72 bi-weekly, or $112,078.72 per year, based on 26 pay periods.
To cover the pay increases, the City Council adopted on first reading a total city budget of $48,825,385 for 2024.The City Council looked favorably on a petition from Cellblock Storage LLC of Schererville for a two- to three-story, 387,000-square-foot storage business on 8.7 acres of land at the intersection of Arrowhead Court and Madison Street.
