PETALING JAYA: With the spike in Covid-19 cases in the country, the Registrar of Societies (RoS) has banned all societies from holding any activity, including their annual general meetings (AGM) until the end of June.
The RoS said this was in line with a government directive to put off all gatherings and meetings for the moment. This was in accordance with the powers of the Registrar under the provisions of Section 3A, of the Societies Act 1966 .
They added that if the situation was still critical as of June 30, organisations would have to submit applications to RoS for consideration for an extension from the set date of their AGMs. “The applications for extensions are to prevent the abuse of the registered organisations’ constitution, as well as Act 335.
“It is hoped that all efforts and measures taken by the government will help prevent the spread of Covid-19, and at the same time, protect Malaysians from the outbreak, ” they said in a statement on Monday . Malaysia’s number of Covid-19 cases hit 428, on Sunday , after seeing the biggest increase in a single day with 190 new cases.
