BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Xinhua): Brunei reported four new cases of Covid-19 on Monday (March 16) following preliminary tests, bringing the country's total to 54.

According to Brunei's Ministry of Health, three of the new cases are linked to the same religious gatherings in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia attended by Brunei's first confirmed patient. There is also a case imported from abroad.

The Ministry of Health also said that all confirmed cases are being treated at the National Quarantine Center at Tudong District. The ministry added that so far, a total of 1,013 people have been ordered to undergo quarantine and 1,312 laboratory tests for Covid-19 have been conducted. A 53-year-old local man became the first confirmed case for Covid-19 in Brunei on March 9 after returning to the country from Kuala Lumpur.

He possibly contracted the virus there during the religious mass gatherings from late February to early March, which were reportedly attended by about 16,000 people, according to the ministry. - Xinhua
