Courthouses across the country are heading for a crisis.The National Court Reporter s Association estimates there's a shortage of thousands of court reporter s.The shortage is being felt in the Susquehanna Valley too.It's an important job that's in high demand.
Stenographers can get certified in about two years.They must have some basic skills.'You need to have strong vocabulary, strong grammar skills. We do a lot of research when there's stuff we don't know. We have to look up medical terminology, legal terminology,' said Bridget Kuster, the Lancaster County chief court reporter.Starting salary is upwards of $60,000. There are plenty of jobs available.
