PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a scrap metal shop assistant for running away with his underaged girlfriend.

The 23-year-old suspect allegedly took the 17-year-old girl in July last year and she was only found on Tuesday.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said the initial incident occurred at around 1.30pm on July 11, 2022. "We received a report from the girl's mother that her daughter was taken by her boyfriend from a housing area at Desa Mentari here. "Based on our investigations and intelligence, we managed to arrest the suspect in Banting and found the girl at Kampung Olak Lempit, also in Banting," he said in a statement Wednesday .

He added that checks revealed that the suspect had no prior criminal record and he has been remanded for two days."The suspect is believed to have run away with the girl because he suspected she was cheating on him with another man.He added that the case was being investigated for criminal intimidation and taking a child without the consent of their legal guardian.
