PETALING JAYA: The latest efforts of the police to stop drink driving seem to be working, as only two arrests were made between 11pm and 3am on June 3.

"Several roadblocks were set up in our district and we inspected 94 people and 73 vehicles. We arrested two men aged 23 and 40 during the operations," said Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal.

"We also issued a summons to a motorist for driving without a licence. Those arrested will be investigated under Section 451 of the Road Transport Act 1987," said ACP Nik Ezanee, adding that such operations would be an ongoing affair. The Petaling Jaya police began conducting operations to weed out drunk drivers following a string of fatal accidents involving alleged drunk drivers nationwide.

ACP Nik Ezanee was quoted saying that the police had initially set up two roadblocks in Petaling Jaya when the operation started on May 27.
