MARTINEZ — Contra Costa County prosecutors charged a 29-year-old Brentwood man in the fatal hit-and-run collision that killed a nail salon owner earlier this month in a downtown intersection’s crosswalk.

Around 7 p.m. October 1, Chung Thu Thi “Tammy” Lee was walking at North California Boulevard and Civic Drive when a sedanbefore speeding off. Lee, who owned the Lavender Dream spa in Walnut Creek, was taken to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries, leaving a husband and three children. A GoFundMe page created by a family member says Le was on the phone with a coworker when she was struck by the vehicle, causing the call to disconnect. The page, created before an arrest was made, says the driver “took away a strong, loving, and kindhearted wife, mother, and friend. She was an irreplaceable person to all of us.”

Police interviews of witnesses and recovery of surveillance-camera footage led them to identify Brentwood man Arck Marquez Ramirez, 29, as a suspect. Walnut Creek policeAccording to the district attorney’s office, Marquez Ramirez was charged Tuesday with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage causing injury, with enhancements for fleeing a crime scene and inflicting great bodily injury to a victim.

He was listed in custody at Martinez county jail and held on $300,000 bail with no listed upcoming arraignment dates.
