Because of the board majority’s continued deficit spending and unwillingness to make necessary cuts, especially staffing reductions needed to adjust for the district’s rapidly declining student enrollment, the district could run out of cash in the next fiscal year.
In other words, the labor unions control the board. These are trustees who belong on the other side of the bargaining table. They’re more concerned with protecting jobs than ensuring the district remains solvent to serve students. Dujan is a regional vice president for sales of a company that provides books and educational materials for schools. He says he would have voted in March against the staffing cuts. If Dujan wins, the labor unions would control four of the five seats.in March prompted the increased county intervention. The board had been told it needed to send layoff notices as part of the cutting of about 200 filled and vacant positions — about half of them full-time teachers. The layoffs would have shaved $12.
