Connie Claxton quit her corporate job in downtown Dallas to don Whataburger ’s orange uniform in July 1970. Fifty-four years later, she’s hanging up her apron. “Wherever I would go,” the 83-year-old retired manager said, “I was Miss Whataburger .” Claxton made friends and met people from all walks of life — including her husband, at the cash register.
