Whataburger lovers can leave their wallets at home with new technology that allows customers to pay by simply showing their faces. The San Antonio -based chain said in a news release that it has implemented face-to-pay, also known as biometric payment, provided by facial recognition technology PopID. Whataburger did not immediately respond to a request for comment on when it began offering face-to-pay and how many locations are using it.
The photo is then converted into a template, encrypted and stored. When you're ready to pay for your burgers and fries, your facial features will be matched with the stored template. You can opt in or out of the program at any time.
