A woman witnessed a couple arguing in the cleaning aisle of a Target store. The boyfriend was verbally abusive towards his girlfriend, calling her names and belittling her in front of other shoppers.
I was the woman next to you and your boyfriend in one of the cleaning aisles of the Columbia Heights Target on 14th St on the evening of 12/12. You and your boyfriend were arguing over buying stuff. You wanted to get a cleaning product and your boyfriend was being so mean to you about it. He was saying you used to have it and he threw it out because it wasn’t being used enough. He was talking down to you and calling you a hoarder.
Really quietly you said that he didn’t need to be so mean about it. Then he was badgering you saying “fine, get it. go ahead, get it.” He kept talking down to you when you were in the check-out line. I couldn’t hear all of it, but the gist was he was chewing you out for spending too much money and that your house is already clean. His tone was so cruel, condescending. I was so close to saying something and I wish I had. I was just worried interjecting would make him angrier at you and make your night worse. Please break up with him. He is terrible. No one should ever speak to you that way. It really hurt my heart. I’m sorry I didn’t speak up for you
