Barclays said there is much to be optimistic about regarding the health of the consumer, despite some risk of sticky inflation.
Barclays sees more upside in store for the broad market in 2025. Equity strategist Venu Krishna lifted the firm's price target on the S & P 500 to 6,600 from 6,500, citing expectations for U.S. technology "exceptionalism" and a "virtuous cycle between income and consumption." "Macro slowing to still-healthy levels should support more US equity upside next year, albeit a deceleration from '23-'24's breakneck pace," he wrote.

The S & P 500 has surged 25.5% since the start of the year. The firm also lifted its earnings-per-share estimates for the index to $271 from $268, suggesting nearly 12% year-over-year growth.
