Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion has expressed confidence in the ability of Vivencio
“Vince” Dizon to deliver as test czar, even as the former stressed that mass testing was the only way forward for the country from the COVID-19 scourge.“With Vince Dizon as the test czar there, I think we will see a lot of improvement because now we have one person on top of all the testing labs, overseeing that we have enough capacity,” Conception told congressmen Friday during a virtual hearing of the House Committee on Trade and Industry.
The Department of Health bared in late April that it was carrying out an estimated 4,500 swab tests daily. Its target is to have 30,000 daily swab tests by May 30. “That’s very expensive for a swab test. I don’t think the private sector can afford that. So the strategy is to really use the swab test in tandem with the rapid test. When you have a confirmed…case in the rapid test kit, then you have to subject that person to a swab test. The challenge also is, if the current capacity doesn’t ramp up, then you’ll have problems.”
“Let’s assume we won’t have a cure for three years. Testing has to be until the very day we find a cure for the virus. There can always be a resurgence [of cases]…Let’s look at the long term. Let’s plan on how we can co-exist with this virus,” he further stated.
