The city of New Braunfels is moving forward with a major upgrade to one of the Comal River’s most frequented public exits, a project aimed at improving accessibility and safety for tubers.

Scott McClelland, assistant director of transportation and capital improvements for New Braunfels, explained that the planned changes will include the addition of an underwater landing that extends about 12 feet and provides a safer, more stable exit from the river. “The underwater landing will be going down about three or four steps that are under the water, extending out 12 feet,” McClelland said. “It’s really about making sure we’re improving infrastructure where we can. The river is so popular, and these changes will make it easier for people to navigate.”The goal is to enhance both accessibility and the overall experience for visitors to the river, McClelland noted.
