A Columbus woman faces nearly $10,000 in charges after a routine tow turns into a financial nightmare.

COLUMBUS, Ga. - A Columbus woman said she is shocked and may have to pay more than her pockets can handle after what she thought would be a simple tow now costs her thousands.

Morris, now aged out of foster care and without any family to support her didn’t have anyone in town to call. Luckily, two of her friends from the gym saw her and stopped to help- all asking how much the tow would cost.Eventually, she said that Cole’s Towing and Recovery did text her the invoice. News Leader 9 reached out to three other towing companies for an estimate of how much a towing incident like this normally costs. Each company stated they usually charge anywhere from $100 to $200.

“$4,000 for the recovery, and every day they are adding $33 for storage fees, and as of yesterday they added the $5,100 fee for court costs and legal fees with a grand total of $9,291,” Morris said.Morris is a school teacher juggling two jobs and says she is always working to better herself. She added that this situation has become a nightmare.
