Two out of three homicides in Columbus this year are being investigated as possible domestic violence cases, prompting the Mayor to task the Office of Violence Prevention with implementing programs to assist both victims and perpetrators. The Office has allocated funds to domestic violence shelters and launched a Batterer Intervention Program to provide mental health treatment for those arrested for domestic violence.

COLUMBUS , Ohio — Two out of the three homicides in the city of Columbus this year are being investigated as possible. Last Thursday's shootout with a teen and Columbus police stemmed from a domestic violence incident as well.

When police arrived, that teen allegedly shot multiple times at officers and officers returned fire. No one was shot. “We recognize that while we are working on the prevention side to lessen those numbers, we still have to make sure the resources are there for the victims themselves as they are experiencing domestic violence and trying to get out of intimate partner violence,” Shak said.
