Columbus Humane has named longtime nonprofit fundraising leader Carol Spychalski as its new CEO following a multi-month national search conducted by BeecherHill alongside the Columbus Humane Search Committee.
Spychalski, who is originally from Lancaster, Ohio, brings more than 20 years of experience advancing mission-driven organizations. Most recently, she served as Vice President of Philanthropy at the San Diego Humane Society. Effective April 27, 2026, Spychalski will take over for Columbus Humane Interim CEO Matt Hall, who began leading the organization in May 2025 after previous CEO Erich Hunker stepped down due to health reasons related to his cancer diagnosis. Spychalski built her career in nonprofit development across health care, higher education and human services before joining the San Diego Humane Society in 2016 as vice president of philanthropy. During her tenure there, she led major, planned and foundation giving and oversaw a comprehensive philanthropy operation generating more than $31 million annually. She also served as the primary architect of the organization’s $260 million comprehensive campaign, guiding strategy from feasibility through implementation. Her work with finance and operations leaders strengthened fiscal discipline while supporting mission expansion, including the development of surplus-based funding models for capital projects. Spychalski has secured gifts ranging from $50,000 to multimillion-dollar commitments and is recognized for building donor pipelines and high-performing teams. She currently leads a team spanning philanthropy and communications, emphasizing accountability, transparency and alignment between staff leadership and organizational vision.“Returning to the state of Ohio to serve an organization so dedicated to advancing animal welfare is both professionally exciting and meaningful personally,” Spychalski said. “I can’t wait to work alongside this incredible staff, serve the Central Ohio community, and expand our impact as an organization.”One person is dead and another seriously injured after a crash late Thursday evening in Greenfield Township.Shortly after 9 p.m., troopers with the Ohio StateThe highways are how Jamey Rose makes a living, but when the wind picks up, he says that’s when the job really gets tough.Gas leak on US 23 in north Columbus causing traffic delays Traffic is backed up along US 23 near the Franklin County border after a gas leak shut down traffic in both directions. An unidentified man robbed a business early Monday morning.A black male wearing a black puffy jacket with a small red emblem entered and then robbed the busin
