A Colorado truck driver was arrested after multiple drivers and eventually a Utah Highway Patrol trooper witnessed his semi-truck veering back and forth on I-80 in Utah 's West Desert. The reports started coming in to the Tooele County dispatch around 4:45 p.m. Saturday about the eastbound tractor-trailer. A probable cause affidavit states drivers were reporting the truck was 'all over the roadway and swerving so erratically no one was able to pass him.
' That trooper was about 2 miles east of the semi-truck when the final call came in. 'As the violator approached, I could see him swerving all over the roadway from nearly a mile away,' the trooper reported, adding that there was a line of about 20 cars behind the semi, none of which were able to pass on the 2-lane section of I-80. 'The violator did not notice me and did not pull over until I drove right next to the driver's door and changed my siren pitch several times,' according to the affidavit. 'I had to use this technique twice with him still not noticing me after the first attempt.' The truck reportedly continued onward for another two miles with the trooper's vehicle alongside it until the driver took notice and pulled over. The trooper reported the driver said he was just heading to Wendover, where he was going to stop for the night. '(He) did not believe me when I told him he'd passed Wendover nearly 30 mile previously,' the trooper reported. After reportedly failing field sobriety tests and being cleared by medical personnel, Murphy was arrested and the truck was impounded. The probable cause statement noted that '... during an inventory of the vehicle, a bottle of vodka with approximately 1/8th remaining was in the cab
