by JACKSON WALKER | The National DeskRepublican U.S. Sen.-elect JD Vance speaks during an election night party Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022, in Columbus, Ohio. seeking to tackle a rising trend of protest encampments at U.S. universities.

Universities across the country have become hotbeds of anti-Israel and anti-American sentiment in recent weeks as protesters build encampments to rally in support of Palestine. Many are also home to outside actors, sparkingThe senator said in a statement his new bill would cause schools with campus encampments to “pay a hefty price.”. “My legislation will force colleges to follow the law, protect their students, and shut these encampments down.

Under the legislation, colleges would have seven days to remove encampments that impede “teaching, research or other core institutional functions.” Those which do not comply will become ineligible for federal assistance, including Pell grants.Schools would then be responsible for providing students the revoked aid funds themselves. Those that don’t comply would be taxed 50% of the price of their endowment fund, according to the legislation.

“These radical Marxists who are doing Hamas’ bidding across the country on college campuses, threatening the safety of our Jewish students and communities, should be treated the same way we treat the terrorist organization they are pledging their support to and immediately be placed on the TSA No Fly List,” Sen. Marshall said.
