The 20-year-old man faces aggravated murder charges after prosecutors say he shot a Lyft driver in the back of the head during a robbery on Feb. 10 in Cleveland.
Updated: Feb. 17, 2026, 4:58 p.m.Derrek Dove was indicted Tuesday for the February 10, 2026 murder of Lyft driver, Antoine Latham. CLEVELAND, Ohio - A Cuyahoga County grand jury has indicted a 20-year-old man accused of fatally shooting a Lyft driver during a robbery on Cleveland’s East Side.
Derrek Dove faces charges of aggravated murder, two counts of murder, aggravated robbery, and felonious assault in the Feb. 10 killing of Antoine Latham, 56, of Cleveland, according to prosecutors. Latham picked up Dove and at least two other passengers that evening for a trip to the 10200 block of Rosehill Avenue near Woodhill Avenue, prosecutors said. During the ride, the passengers robbed Latham of his cell phone and shot him in the back of the head, prosecutors said. The suspects fled after the shooting. Latham’s vehicle crashed into a guardrail, and paramedics transported him to University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, where he died. Lyft cooperated with Cleveland police’s investigation. Phone records and video surveillance from the rideshare company linked Dove to the crime. “This was a cold and deliberate act of murder,” Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley stated. “Antoine Latham was killed while simply trying to earn a living. We will do everything in our power to seek justice for him and his family and to hold Derrek Dove accountable.”Dove will be arraigned March 3 at the Cuyahoga County Justice Center. No bond has been issued, and he remains in the county jail, according to court records. Two days after Latham’s death, another Lyft driver was killed in a similar incident. Vasyl Shvets, a 27-year-old Ukrainian from Parma, was shot around 1 a.m. on Cleveland’s East Side and crashed his vehicle into a dumpster. Prosecutors said Dove is not connected to that incident. Cleveland police arrested two teenage boys Monday in connection with Shvets’ death after executing warrants on the city’s West Side. Authorities recovered two firearms during the arrests. Lyft banned the customers who ordered both rides. In Shvets’ case, the customer ordered the ride from Arizona.
