Coffee County Queens recognized at New Brockton Council meeting

Former U.S. Marine Gerry Brooks died alone at a nursing home in Maine, abandoned and all but forgotten. Then the funeral home posted a notice asking if anyone would serve as a pallbearer or simply attend his burial. Within minutes, it was turning away volunteers to carry his casket.

Michelle Mann The reigning queens of Coffee County were recognized for their community service at the recent New Brockton Town Council meeting.

President of the New Brockton Service League Ashley Merritt introduced Miss Coffee County Madi Rae Hudson, Little Miss Coffee County Cara Lee Linton, Junior Miss Coffee County Ryleigh Marler, Teen Miss Coffee County Shaylee Johnson, Petite Miss Coffee County Madison Rascoe, and Future Little Miss Coffee County Rosemary Walters to those attending the council meeting.

“Annually, the New Brockton Service League sponsors the Miss Coffee County Pageants,” said Merritt. “I tell the girls at orientation that this is not a pageant, that you are interviewing for and competing for a role and committing yourself to serving Coffee County. “These girls are already off to a great start,” Merrit said. “They honored teachers in our schools through Teacher Appreciation Week, honored our local law enforcement officers, and have been to all the ribbon cuttings in Enterprise. They are up for pretty much anything representing Coffee County well.
