The former Dallas Cowboys head coach and Super Bowl champion coordinator embraced the opportunity to extend his career with the UFL's San Antonio Brahmas.
Touching down in San Antonio this January for the first time since being named the Brahmas new coach, Wade Phillips had a clear idea of how he wanted to operate. He acknowledged that a major facet of coaching is learning and growing from experience, but the 76-year-old had long solidified many of his coaching tenets through the past 55 seasons, including six NFL head coaching roles and nine stints as a defensive coordinator.
He’s always a funny guy, humble, chill, laid back,” Latimer said. “He wants the best for his players. That’s all you can ask for. He’s not out here trying to kill everyone. He’s just Wade.” Running back Anthony McFarland credited Phillips for helping reignite his love of football, creating a “family atmosphere” even with a roster overhauled by the merger of the XFL and USFL.
