Cloudy weather kept away some Texas eclipse watchers, but those who turned out said they made life-long memories.
Flying in from Arizona , Conni and Jerry Knoblach planned to watch Monday’s total solar eclipse in Kerrville . But as soon as they arrived, Jerry Knoblach took a look at the cloud cover and decided they needed to get back in the car and find clearer skies. They found what he was looking for in a gravel lot not far from where Interstate 10 meets U.S. 290.
And then the clouds parted just in time for totality For much of Texas, that was the story of the 2024 total solar eclipse: Not as big and glorious as it could’ve been, a bit more difficult to see than expected – but still pretty darn cool. State officials and eclipse experts had predicted as many as 1.5 million out-of-state visitors would roll into Texas for the rare celestial event, which was the first total solar eclipse to cross the continental United State since 2017.
Beneath a gray sky, eclipse brings a canopy of silence and awe He'd intended to watch the eclipse in Kerrville, which was where his great-grandmother was born. But he and Kat Janowicz drove east from Kerrville on Monday, heading down U.S. 290 to find a better vantage point, and stopped when they saw the crowd of people gathered near I-10, where the Knoblacks had stopped. Kempton had heard people say that once you’ve seen one eclipse, you’ll want to see all of them.
