Cleveland Metroparks Zoo’s RainForest is closing and making way for a Primate Forest.
announced that its RainForest - which has been opened for more than 30 years and offers hundreds of animals, species and flora – will close in September and eventually reopen as the Primate Forest.Spaces within the RainForest will be refreshed and remodeled and integrated into the new space, zoo officials said in a statement.
The RainForest site is entering what Zoo officials deem “a new era.” The Primate Forest, part of the first phase of improvements at the Zoo, is expected to open in 2026. The next phase will be a gorilla habitat element.was successfully integrated into the troop at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo in hopes it might bond with a foster mother. Frederika, the oldest gorilla in the zoo’s troop, wasted no time in picking up the infant Jameela, who was born in the Fort Worth Zoo in January.
