The Coyotes built a lead from Clayton Keller's hat trick and won 4-1 on Sunday at Mullett Arena.
Vejmelka had a heavy workload with 35 saves and was backed up by his defense with 18 blocked shots.
It only took two shots before the Coyotes scored when Nick Bjugstad and Michael Carcone earned a loose puck behind the net and set up Guenther at 1:59. The Coyotes repeated the feat again in the second period when Keller scored at 1:39.When Keller finds the back of the net, it’s a good sign for the offense. Keller made a breakthrough with his second, third, and fourth goals in the last 11 games.
His first goal began with Barrett Hayton’s nicely timed screen on Golden Knights goaltender Logan Thompson at the beginning of the second period. The puck savvy duo of Jakob Chychrun and Shayne Gostisbehere were given plenty of time before finding Keller for a 2-1 lead. Down by two goals with five minutes remaining, the Golden Knights made the bold decision to add the extra attacker. Schmaltz gained possession of the puck and instead passed over to Keller for the empty net goal at 15:52.
