Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Chidobe Awuzie suffered a torn ACL against the Cleveland Browns on Monday night and will have surgery in the next few weeks.
“In the moment, I broke on the ball against Amari and then when I passed him, I looked back to see if he caught it or dropped it,” Awuzie said of how it happened. “And then as soon as I looked back, my knee just did whatever it did. I hit the ground. I’m not used to not being able to walk or anything so I immediately started to run off the field. When I got back to the sidelines, I was thinking it might be something minor. But then they told me what they told me. Just a different experience.
Awuzie said the swelling needs to go down before he can have surgery, which is why it won't happen right away. He’s not even thinking about his timeline to return right now. and Apple, if healthy, without Awuzie in the lineup. If anything happens to either Taylor-Britt or Apple, it’s likely Dax Hill will move from safety to cornerback as he did against the Browns. That’s the worst-case scenario but Awuzie is confident in both if they are asked to hold it down.
