This tactic hasn’t worked well for Democrats in the past, though.
WASHINGTON ― It’s possible to shame Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell into action despite his record of blocking Democratic initiatives and nominations, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Tuesday.
“Many things that Congress does happen at the last minute,” McConnell said Monday in response. “We’ve never failed to address this issue. And we will address it again. I don’t know why he’s all bent out of shape.” Schumer, meanwhile, has repeatedly called on the GOP leader to bring to the floor legislation that would beef up election security following special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on Russian interference in the 2016 election. But on that matter, too, McConnell has refused to comply, calling such bills duplicative and unnecessary.
