Leonardo DiCaprio as Dom Cobb holding a gun in Inception

A selection of films has been granted one of the highest honors in the industry, including one of Christopher Nolan's best works. Nolan's Inception took the world by storm when it was released in 2010, starring Leonardo DiCaprio as a fugitive who leads a specialized team utilizing technology to infiltrate a person's dreams, on a mission to plant an idea in a CEO's mind.

The movie was nominated for eight Oscars and won four, grossed $828 million at the worldwide box office, and still holds an 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, Inception has been added to the National Film Registry among the 25 additions selected this year. The Library of Congress' National Film Registry project chooses 25 movies for preservation each year, due to their cultural, historic, or aesthetic importance. To date, the Registry comprises 925 titles, including many all-time greats. Nolan's Memento and The Dark Knight were previously added to the Registry. Movies added to the list this year span decades, genres, and formats, from the classic 1980s underdog story The Karate Kid to Tom Hanks' career-defining drama Philadelphia to one of Pixar's absolute best movies, The Incredibles, to key documentaries such as Ken Burns' Brooklyn Bridge.Notably, Inception is only the third most recent movie to be included this year, as entries from any time in the entire history of film could be chosen. Thus, classics in their respective genres, such as White Christmas, Clueless, and The Truman Show, are only being added this year. The most modern selection, The Grand Budapest Hotel, is director Wes Anderson's second movie on the Registry, after Rushmore. Acting Librarian of Congress Robert R. Newlen said in a statement:"When we preserve films, we preserve American culture for generations to come. These selections for the National Film Registry show us that films are instrumental in capturing important parts of our nation's story." Following Inception, Nolan has continued to make industry-changing movies and can easily be counted among the best directors of all time. Since 2010, he has made Interstellar, Dunkirk, and Oppenheimer, and is now preparing to release his massive mythological epic, The Odyssey. As with many of the directors whose work makes it onto the National Film Registry, Nolan could still change the face of cinema. 90 8.8/10 10/10 Inception 10 stars 9 stars 8 stars 7 stars 6 stars 5 stars 4 stars 3 stars 2 stars 1 star Like Follow Followed PG-13 Adventure Sci-Fi Thriller Action Release Date July 16, 2010 Runtime 148 minutes Director Christopher Nolan Writers Christopher Nolan Franchise Inception Cast See All
