The Hyptec HL EREV is a new kind of hybrid, with its design focusing on comfort, handling, and advanced autonomous technology.
Chinese automaker GAC has unveiled its latest offering, the Hyptec HL EREV SUV, which boasts an impressive 218-mile all-electric range and a remarkable total range of 851 miles. At the heart of the Hyptec HL EREV is GAC ’s newly developed Xingyuan range-extender system, designed to tackle three major challenges common in hybrid vehicles: excessive fuel consumption, sluggish acceleration, and high levels of vibration and noise.
The setup integrates a 1.5-liter DHE engine with a rear-mounted electric motor, paired with CATL’s 60.33 kWh Freevoy ternary lithium Super Hybrid battery pack. This combination provides both efficiency and performance, with the engine capable of running on either #92 or #95 gasoline. The electric motor itself delivers a maximum output of 250 kW and generates a peak torque of 430 Nm, ensuring strong power delivery across different driving conditions.Delivering 0–62 mph in 7.5 seconds with rapid chargingThe Hyptec HL EREV is designed to deliver both efficiency and performance. It features a 14-gallon fuel tank and achieves an estimated fuel economy of about 35 miles per gallon under the WLTC testing standard, making it suitable for long-distance driving. Performance-wise, the SUV accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in just 7.5 seconds, offering drivers responsive power when needed. Charging is equally practical – under 5C fast-charging conditions, the vehicle can recover roughly 130 miles of range in only 10 minutes, allowing quick top-ups on extended trips. While the Hyptec HL EREV shares its exterior design with the all-electric BEV variant, its engineering places a stronger focus on ride comfort and handling. The chassis is built with a front double-wishbone and rear five-link suspension setup, delivering stability and control across various driving conditions. To further enhance the driving experience, the suspension stiffness is automatically adjusted using real-time data from onboard cameras and lidar sensors, allowing the system to anticipate and adapt to upcoming road obstacles.Mapless GSD autonomous tech with lidar and radarsThe Hyptec HL is also equipped with a smart cockpit system powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chip and integrated DeepSeek-R1 AI. This setup enables intuitive voice interaction, allowing drivers and passengers to control functions seamlessly while on the move, making every journey more convenient and connected.Fueled by Nvidia’s Drive Orin-X chip and Momenta’s advanced algorithm, the Hyptec HL leverages GAC’s mapless GSD system to provide next-level driver assistance. Unlike traditional systems, it can navigate complex driving scenarios without relying on preloaded high-definition maps. Its capabilities include detecting static obstacles, assisting with tight-space parking, enabling autonomous valet parking, supporting remote parking, and monitoring blind spots, all designed to enhance safety, convenience, and confidence behind the wheel. To support this capability, every model in the series is equipped with a robust sensor suite that includes a roof-mounted lidar, three millimeter-wave radars, 11 cameras, and 12 ultrasonic radars. Together, these components give the SUV real-time environmental awareness, enhancing safety, reliability, and autonomous driving performance.
